Learn MoreYoung Scholars of Greater Allegheny (formerly, Young Scholars of McKeesport Charter School) opened in 2015 as a sister school to Young Scholars of Western Pennsylvania Charter School in Baldwin Township.
The goal was to offer a similar multilingual and multicultural experience to students in McKeesport and its surrounding neighborhoods. YSGA focuses on teaching two world languages, with all students learning Turkish and Spanish with the goal for all scholars to become global citizens.
The school first opened in a rented building from the St. Nicholas Byzantine Church on Shaw Avenue in McKeesport and served grades K -5. In the 2017-18 school year, the school added a sixth grade and within 3 years expanded to 8th grade.
We are proud to have been recognized for our commitment to excellence. In 2020, YSGA received the Distinguished Title 1 School Reward, highlighting our dedication to serving all students with distinction. This was also the year that the school’s name became, “Young Scholars of Greater Allegheny Charter School.
In 2021, YSGA relocated to our new campus on Center Avenue, offering enhanced facilities and opportunities for our growing community.
