What Is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in school programs and activities. Sexual harassment, including sexual violence and retaliation, are forms of discrimination prohibited by Title IX.

Young Scholars does not tolerate sex discrimination, sexual harassment, or retaliation. We take purposeful steps to ensure that students, employees, and third parties are not subject to a hostile environment in school programs or activities. We respond promptly to allegations of sex discrimination by conducting investigations and taking action, including disciplinary action, against individuals found to have violated our policies. We also provide remedies to complainants and the campus community.

Young Scholars also takes immediate action to end hostile environments when they are created. We work to prevent their recurrence and remedy their effects on affected members of the campus community.

Confidentiality

Anyone—adult or child—who has experienced sexual misconduct at Young Scholars and who would like to speak confidentially with someone about their reporting options should consider contacting our Title IX Coordinator.

Young Scholars will do everything we can to honor a complainant’s request for confidentiality. Complainants will be informed about how our protecting confidentiality may also limit our ability to respond fully to a report.

Reports made to school employees other than those specifically identified as confidential sources must be reported to the Title IX Coordinator, who will evaluate the report to determine whether action must be taken to protect the school community.
